perspective は「視点」と言う意味ですが、文脈によれば「見方」「観点」「立場」などの意味としても使うことができます。perspective は次のようなフレーズで一番よく使われます。

perspective の使い方

perspective は「ある人が物事を見るときの視点・立場・思考の枠組み」を指します。

point of view とは、意味がとても似ってる表現ですが、時に置き換え可能ですが、微妙なニュアンスの違いがあります。ちょっと説明してみます。

point of view の意味と違い

point of view は perpective と同じように「物事の捉え方」や「考え方」、「立場」を表す言葉です。多くの会話の中では同じように使われます。

• From my perspective / point of view, this approach makes sense.
  私の視点からすると、このやり方は理にかなっている。

それでも、感情・個人性の強さには違いがあります。point of view はより個人的な意見や主観を表す傾向が強いで、perspective はより冷静で分析的、または全体的な見方に近いです。

• From a historian’s perspective, the war had long-term effects.
  歴史家の視点では、その戦争は長期的影響を与えた。
  → 客観的・専門的な視点
• From my point of view, he was completely wrong.
  私の考えでは、彼は完全に間違っていた。

文芸や映像での使い方にも違いがあります。point of view は、小説や映画などでの「視点人物 (誰の目で語られているか)」を指します。perspective は、「描写の角度」や「視覚的構図」にも使えます。

• The novel is written from a first-person point of view.
  → この小説は一人称視点で書かれている。
• The painting uses a bird’s-eye perspective.
