今回は地下鉄の駅で使える英語の表現をお伝えします。「駅」は英語で station となり、「地下鉄」は英語で subway というから、「地下鉄の駅」は subway station となります。イギリスでは tube, underground, metro という言葉もよく使われます。まずは、駅の場所などを聞きたい時に使えるフレーズをお伝えします。空港とかホテルのスタッフに尋ねてみます。
- Excuse me, how do I get to the nearest station from here?
すみません。ここから一番近い駅にはどのように行けばいいですか？ - Do you know where the closest subway station is?
一番近いバス停を知っていますか？ - Could you tell me how to get to (Grand Central Station)?
グランド・セントラル駅までの行き方を教えてもらえますか？
駅に到着したら、切符を買いたいが切符売り場が土器にあるか分からない場合には、スタッフに次のように尋ねてみます。
- Where can I buy tickets?
どこで切符を変えますか？ - Where is the ticket office?
切符売り場はどこですか？
たくさんの駅には券売機がありますが、券売機がない場合には、切符売り場に行って次のように尋ねてみます。
- I would like to buy (one) ticket to (Grand Central Station).
グランドセントラル駅までの切符を買いたいのです - How much does it cost from (here) to (Central Station)?
ここからセントラル駅までいくらかかりますか？ - Could I have one-way/round-trip tickets to (New York Penn Station) for (3 adults) and (2 children), please?
ペンシルベニア駅までの片道／往復切符を大人3名、子ども2名分お願いできますか？ - Could I buy a reserved ticket?
指定席は買えますか？
「交通(IC)カード」は英語で transportation card と言います。交通カードを買いたい場合には、スタッフに次のように尋ねてみます。
- Where can I buy a transportation card?
どこで交通(IC)カードを買えますか？ - I would like to buy a transportation card.
交通(IC)カードを買いたいと思います。 - I would like to add (5 dollars) to my card.
交通カードに「…」を追加したいです。
次は、線や電車のホームを探す時に使えるフレーズをお伝えします。電車のホーム・線はアメリカ英語では track ですが、イギリス英語では platform と言います。
- Where is the track for Boston?
ボストン行きの乗り場はどこですか？ - From which platform does the train for (London) leave?
ロンドン行きの電車は何番線から出ますか？ - What platform should I get off at?
何番線で降りればいいですか？
次は、何か問題がある場合にはスタッフに尋ねることができるフレーズを教えします。
- I bought the wrong ticket. Could I get a refund, please?
間違った切符を買ってしまいました。払い戻しはできますか？ - Could I have a train map, please?
鉄道の路線図をいただけますか？ - I would like to change the destination of my train ticket. Can you change it to Boston, please?
切符の行き先を変更したいのですが。ボストン行きに変えてもらえますか？
最後は、駅構内や電車内で流れるアナウンスをご紹介します。
- The train bound for (Paris) is now arriving at platform two.
パリ行きの列車は、まもなく2番線に到着します - For your safety, please stand behind the yellow line.
安全のため、黄色い線の内側にお下がりください - The train departing at 12:15 bound for Narita Airport is leaving from platform nine.
12時15分発、成田空港行きの電車は9番ホームから出発します - Please stand clear of the closing door.
